Two talented youngsters from the North-east’s only all-girls school have won free tickets to the city’s ultimate winter event, The Enchanted Castle.

Pupils aged between 11 and 12 years old from St Margaret’s School for Girls in Aberdeen were tasked with writing a thought-provoking story about the Enchanted Castle, whilst the younger pupils were challenged to draw or paint their idea of what an Enchanted Castle should look like.

Aspiring author, Emily Austin (11), of Ellon, won the short story competition with her entry entitled ‘Oliver’s Dream’ and art enthusiast, Florence Taylor (8), of Aboyne, won the award for the best Enchanted Castle drawing with her bright and colourful creation.

“We had a great number of fantastic entries, which made the judging process extremely tricky,” said Gerry Muldoon of GM Events.

“Florence’s entry stood out, not only because the castle was well executed, but she had added a number of details to her drawing which really brought it to life and added to the overall enchanted feel of the picture.

“Emily’s short story really captured the spirit of the Enchanted Castle and told the tale of a young boy who falls in love with a princess who lived in a big castle tucked away in a dark deep forest.”

The award-winning entries will be displayed at Crathes Castle from the 21–25 November, when the castle and grounds will be transformed into a spectacular festive wonderland with cutting edge light and sound effects.

The girls were also presented with a professional art set, book tokens and complementary tickets to the event to commend their efforts.

The 2012 event, titled ‘Fantasia’ is shaping up to be the most popular yet, with over 8,000 people expected to descend on Banchory over the five nights.

Sponsored by Petrofac and organised by GM Events, the light and sound spectacular will feature a new illuminated garden trail, a mesmerising magic zone and a host of brave fire entertainers who will perform a show-stopping display when they juggle, breathe and dance with fire.

Tickets can be purchased in advance only from Aberdeen Box Office, Union Street, Aberdeen, tel 01224 641122 or visit www.boxofficeaberdeen.com or www.nts.org.uk/Events.
