Larks Gallery owners Jo Riley and Pip Will are pleased to present an exhibition by local artist, Fiona Thomson at Larks Gallery in Ballater, from August 25 – September 14.
Pip and Fiona have been friends for around 11 years after meeting while working on their painting and drawing skills near Alford.
They discovered that they lived only a few miles from each other in the Cushnie area. At that time Fiona was already a skilled artist making a name with animal portraits and oil paintings after working and exhibiting as an artist since her teens.
Fiona has gone on to gain an MFA (Master of Fine Art post graduate degree) from Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen resulting in a highly successful graduate exhibition at Gray’s in 2010 and a solo exhibition at the prestigious Bonhams in Edinburgh in 2011, amongst other achievements and worldwide sales of her work.
Fiona has developed her art skills in many directions but maintains a love of watercolours and especially with animal subjects including local wildlife and her own beloved Italian Greyhounds. The paintings are fresh and dramatic and convey emotion and energy.
Meanwhile Pip formed a partnership with Jo Riley, another Cushnie resident, and the pair bought Larks Gallery in Ballater in 2011 and run it as a centre for Contemporary Artwork specialising in local artists, jewellery makers, sculptors and textile artists.
The three friends say they are thrilled to be able to mount an exhibition of Fiona’s work and look forward to presenting her new watercolours in the gallery to the local community and to visitors from further afield.
The exhibition opens with an afternoon event where visitors can meet the artist and gallery owners and enjoy some refreshments on Saturday, August 25 from 1pm to 5pm.
