Inchmarlo man is Deputy Lieutenant

The Lord Lieutenant for Kincardineshire, Mrs Carol Kinghorn, has appointed Colin Champion, Inchmarlo, to be a Deputy Lieutenant for Kincardineshire.

He will assist Mrs Kinghorn in carrying out her duties on behalf of HM The Queen within the County

Colin Champion has extensive business and management experience having spent nearly twenty years with BP International in two major operating areas of the petrochemicals and exploration and Production Divisions.

He subsequently joined the London-based organisation of Sanders & Sidney as a management consultant, working with the UK oil and gas industry and also delivering career change management programmes across diverse business sectors including the Ministry of Defence and Scottish Universities.

He served for 15 years with the Reserves in 1st Bn Army Cadet Force of the Gordon Highlanders, attaining the rank of Major. He is a Fellow of The Royal Geographical Society, a services-qualified mountain expedition leader and is active as an Overseas Expedition Leader with the World Challenge organisation, taking student expeditions to mountain environments in remote regions of the world.

Currently Chairman of the Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Kincardineshire branch of SSAFA - Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association - he is also the regional representative for the charity’s Northern Scotland region.

Married with two grown-up children, he and his wife Brenda have lived in Banchory for the past 25 years.
