Volunteers at the Alford Heritage Centre are baffled over the purpose of a mystery box, rediscovered during preparations to move the farmers’ market indoors.
The wooden crate, with glass inserts supported on steel springs, has left staff and visitors to Alford’s Heritage Centre scratching their heads.
The object is just one of many hundreds of artefacts on show at the centre – but nearly all have been identified. Only this box remains unknown.
Market organiser Catherine Caseau said: “One of the volunteers found the small crate and asked what it was. No-one knows. We’ve asked dozens of people – even the older men from the area. But it’s a mystery.
“It will be on show for everyone to see when they visit the Heritage Centre for the farmers’ markets in the coming weeks and months,” said Catherine.
Anyone who knows the name and purpose of the crate should get in touch with the Heritage Centre on (019755) 62906, e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a message on the farmer’s market’s website at: www.spanglefish/alfordfarmersmarket.
