A Banchory couple successfully bid in a charity auction for the chance to meet international star Susan Boyle after her recent Aberdeen show.
Singer Fiona Kennedy, patron on FROM Scotland (Famine Relief for Orphans in Malawi), arranged an event called ‘Nae Ordinary Burns Supper’ at Ardoe House Hotel, in January, to raise money for a number of charities, including FROM Scotland.
One of the auction items was a trip to see Susan Boyle and Elaine C Smith, who plays the star, in ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ at HMT in Aberdeen.
John and Lorraine Gibson, of Banchory, successfully bid for this prize. John is owner and MD of NDT, an oil industry services company in the city.
On the night of the show recently, they were picked up by a chauffer-driven car and taken to the theatre, where they were VIPs, saw the hit show and met the two leading ladies. Fiona said: “I am patron of FROM and was out in Malawi singing in February this year, everywhere from orphanages, feeding stations to the Blantyre Burns Supper and saw for myself the huge difference every single donation makes to the lives of the children and wee ohnes there.
“It costs just about £15 per year to feed one child, which is a sobering thought, and FROM Scotland is committeed to a number of projects as well as providing and distributing fortified food on a daily basis to more than 1,000 children.”
