Junior Chess returns to Stoney

The popular junior chess events return to Stonehaven Town Hall from 10 a.m. to approximately 4.30 p.m on Saturday, January 30.

This year when the North-East Junior Chess Association (NEJCA) will again host a local heat of the Chess for Kicks (CFK) competition.

The CFK is a national event with the winners from each area meeting in the finals held in early June on a Scottish Premier League stadium.

Three different junior tournaments covering Primary and Secondary pupils will take place simultaneously: the first is for youngsters who are either ungraded or already have a grading less than 300; the second section is for players with grades under-600; while the third tournament is for all players who are graded less than 1000.

The entry fees remain at a £4 per player (plus £2 for any additional family member).

At the Stonehaven event, all participants will play at least five games during the day, with time controls of 25 minutes per player for each match.

Prizes will be presented for the three tournaments with the top three in each section qualifying for the national Final.
