West Aberdeenshire & Kincardine Labour Party has selected Strachan resident Lesley Young as their candidate for Banchory & Mid-Deeside Ward in the forthcoming local council elections.
Lesley and her family moved to Strachan in 2008 after her husband’s retirement after living in Brussels for the previous 17 years.
Lesley says: “My mother Christina was in service at the Clydesdale Bank in Banchory High Street in 1934 and she shared her memories of working for Mr Middleton and his wife and caring for their three boys. This gives me a real sense of connection with Banchory. My mother was born in Drumoak and family holidays were spent with my three cousins in the Kirkton of Skene.”
Since arriving in Strachan, Lesley, a former civil servant, has joined the SWRI, taken over the monthly newsletter “Strachan Today”, established a Book Group and monthly village coffee mornings and serves on Feughdee West Community Council and Strachan Hall Committee. Lesley has also put her 15 years’ Girl Guiding experience to good use by re-opening a Rainbow Unit and is now a Tawny Owl.
She says “This is the first time I have stood in a local council election but I welcome the challenge and know that my mother would be proud that like her, I may have the opportunity to serve the people of Banchory.”
