Deeside notched their twelfth win of the season last weekend meaning a win of any kind against Lochaber this Saturday would secure the title.
The Banchory side travelled to The Meadows where they saw off Ellon 12-35 - gaining a try scoring bonus point in the process.
A try each was scored by each team early on, but then Deeside took control and it wasn’t until the end of the game that Ellon scored their second.
The game was won up front with a dominant forwards display, including a push-over try from a scrum and a try from a driving line-out.
Of course, the backs played their part finishing phases out wide with the back three scoring.
Try scorers were Michael MacLugash, Ryan Mountain, Sam Cooper, Mark McKenzie and Cameron Randalls.
Kicker Bailey Blyth was great from the tee with 2 conversions and 2 penalties (until he got subbed off).
Man of the match was full-back Michael MacLugash.
The result means Deeside remain top of the league on 60 points, two points clear of second and third placed Garioch and Aberdeen Wanderers on 58 points each.
The two chasers will meet at Groats Road this weekend where either one or both will be out of the title reckoning.
A win for either could put them top but should Deeside triumph over Lochaber in Fort William then any other result would become moot as neither side would be able to catch the leaders.
Should Deeside slip up however, there fate will still remain in their own hands, when they welcome Shetland to Woodend on April 16, having played one game less than Garioch and Wanderers.
The other title chasing teams will have completed their season this weekend while Deeside will not finish theirs until the following Saturday.
This means that Deeside need only win one of their two reaming games, against two sides both battling against the drop, to win the league and make it back-to-back titles, having won BT Caledonia League Division 3 North last season.
