Thousands are expected to head for Strathdon this Saturday to attend the Lonach Highland Gathering and Games and join in the 175th anniversary celebrations.
Organised by the Lonach Highland and Friendly Society, the event features a packed programme, with something for all the family.
A highlight every year is the march of the Lonach Highlanders, who this year will be joined by Europe’s only private army, the Atholl Highlanders.
In total, around 220 marchers, resplendent in full Highland regalia, will be taking part this year, including
members of both Highlanders’ pipe bands.
The 175th gathering will also include a display of old photographs, charting its history through the decades.
Jennifer Stewart, secretary and chief executive of the Lonach Highland and Friendly Society, said: “The gathering has been a constant in an ever-changing world. We are very proud to be celebrating our 175 th anniversary games and welcoming the Atholl Highlanders to mark the occasion.
“Lonach is always a great day, with events and races to keep everyone entertained. Our display of old photos is fascinating and will be a real talking point amongst visitors.”
