A charity lunch was held at Banchory Guide Lodge recently to raise money and awareness for some of the world’s poorest people.
Charity The Dochas Education Trust launched ‘Project Ana’, which aims to help orphaned and vulnerable children in southern Malawi.
The trust go to the area to teach the local women how to knit and sew school uniforms for their children.
The Malawian government does not allow a child to go to school without a school uniform.
Last year Denise Sanders, of the trust, and her daughter Katie went to the country and showed over one hundred local women how to knit simple jumpers for the children to allow them to go to school.
The African women were doing so well from their expert instruction in fact that they branched out into knitting various styles of jumpers, waistcoats and even dresses.
Traditional knitted items like scarves were likely to be in short supply in Malawi’s climes.
