Donside MSP Christian Allard has called upon Liberal Democrat Sir Malcolm Bruce to sort out his party’s unpaid policing bills for last year’s Lib Dem UK conference in Glasgow.
The call to Sir Malcolm, who is also Deputy Leader of the UK party, comes as the Liberal Democrats meet for their annual conference in Glasgow this week.
Mr Allard, who is a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Justice Committee, has written to Malcolm Bruce asking him to clarify why the Lib Dems are “refusing to pick up the bill for their 2013 event which has left Scottish policing several hundred thousand pounds out of pocket,” as revealed in the Sunday Herald.
Mr Allard has also written to Alison McInnes MSP who also sits on Justice Committee at Holyrood and holds a North East seat.
Mr Allard said: “While they pretend to stand up for local policing their actions have left a £800,000 hole in the Scottish police budget.
“Malcolm Bruce and his party are showing contempt for a police force which does a fantastic job in protecting our communities...leaving the taxpayer to foot the bill.
“you’d hope that a party of government at Westminster could stump up.”
