Youngsters have the opportunity to form bands and play all the instruments at music workshops being held at Easter.
Oceanrockstudios in Aboyne is offering the musical experience, including guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, DJ and electronic dance music production. New this year is to create a You Tube video.
Now in its sixth year, this four-hour holiday experience is the ideal introduction to music. Because the groups are small, the content of workshops is tailored according to age and experience. For some young people, this is their first introduction to actively producing their own music. For others it is an opportunity to develop skills they have already acquired. Everyone can be confident that by the end of the workshops, they will have extended their experience and learned new things.
The varied content of each workshop allows young people to experiment and be creative. They may well discover unexpected natural aptitude – or discover an enthusiasm for an instrument or vocals which they had not previously considered. The use of new music technology increases awareness of the elements that create current songs.
Some youngsters go on to regular lessons but many simply enjoy the workshop experience and go away with and a sense of pride in what they have produced and have greater confidence in their musical and performing abilities.
Even Nathan, a seasoned music teacher accustomed to the creativity and development of his students, enthuses about the achievements of the workshop groups.
“I never cease to be amazed by the amount of talent in our area,” he said. “I find the eagerness and zest of the students to be very inspiring!”
All instruments are provided during the workshops including DJ decks and computers for electronic dance music production.
Young people of all ages - from primary school and through academy - can be accommodated. Bookings can be made for individual students or groups (up to four) who wish to attend a workshop together.
Workshops will be taking place Monday to Thursday, April 2 to 5; then Tuesday to Friday, April 10 to 13, at the studio in Aboyne.
