The annual charity event, organised by Banchory Rotary Club, due to be held on May 30, has been cancelled in view of the likelihood of regulations on distancing and social gatherings still being in place in some form.

“We are very disappointed that we have had to call off this year’s rally as it’s an event which all the vintage car and motorcycle enthusiasts who participate enjoy and attracts a large attendance of the public every year, as well as raising a considerable amount of money for local charities,” said event convener, Rotarian Neil Booth.

“We even gave serious consideration to holding the event later in the year but planning ahead is impossible at the moment because of all the uncertainties surrounding when restrictions are likely to be sufficiently relaxed to allow the extensive preparations required to get underway.”

The date of next year’s rally is Sunday, May 29.

The event regularly attracts more than 300 entries of vintage and classic cars and motorcycles and raises £6000 - £8000 every year for deserving charities, thanks to the tremendous support of local enthusiasts and the club’s organising team.

“It’s one of our main fund-raisers of the year and it’s disappointing we have to cancel as many of the charities we support are more than ever needing our support in these difficult times,” said Mr Booth.

The club is considerating arranging some sort of virtual event of interest to vintage car and motorcycle enthusiasts to raise some badly needed funds.
