A young Banchory woman has been chosen for a talent development initiative for emerging young actors.

Elsa Strachan, 20, joins the The Attic Collective based at the King’s Theatre in Edinburgh for the next twelve months.

Elsa, whose family farm at Mill of Strachan, is among a core company of 18 selected from a pool of nearly four hundred applicants following two rounds of auditions last month.

They will be working with director Susan Worsfold and Cat Sheridan, learning and participation co-ordinator for the Festival City Theatres Trust and creative producer for the collective.

Elsa, a former Banchory Academy pupil, said: “When I got the email offering me the place I was beyond ecstatic.

“I was in Strachan helping my aunt with the horses on the farm and I kept on running back to the house to check if I’d got the email, since we have no mobile reception.

“I was really surprised, because I didn’t think the audition had gone very well, but I am absolutely buzzing that I get to spend the next year doing what I love as part of an incredible company.”

Elsa moved to Glasgow to pursue an acting career and has been involved in several productions with the Scottish Youth Theatre, including playing Caliban in The Tempest.

She is eagerly anticipating the collective’s first show, Lysistrata, on January 27 and 28 at the King’s Theatre.
