Community leaders in Banchory have been encouraged by the response to a local action plan survey.

The plan, covering the next four years, was launched last month inviting people to have their say in shaping the town’s future.

Banchory Community Council and Marr Area Partnership set up a steering group to lead the process.

Steering group chair Mary Lennox said they had received nearly 800 responses.

She added: “This seems to represent a good cross-section in terms of age, gender, and from different parts of the town.

“We have now begun to analyse the results, but already one or two things stand out. There is a very strong desire for the promised Sports Centre to be built - and considerable frustration that after so many years building has not yet started.

“Also featuring prominently is concern about the High Street and the number of empty shops. Other issues will emerge as we work or way through the huge amount of data we have collected.”

Open days will be held to allow people to see and comment on the results.

On September 25 and 26 there will be an exhibition in the town hall and on September 27 this will move to the Community Centre at Hill of Banchory School.
