Inchmarlo House extension plans
Plans have been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council in a bid to extend Inchmarlo House.
The proposed works at the care home near Banchory would see single storey extensions to the rear of the building to house new laundry and staff facilities.
Temporary staff facilities are currently located outside the home but this application would enable permanent improved facilities to be accommodated inside the building.
The new staff facilities will provide larger male and female changing rooms with more suitable cubicles, WCs, showers and lockers.
The larger staff canteen will allow for improved social distancing for more staff.
The new walkway and laundry extension will improve routes from the main building to the laundry and within the laundry, which in turn will reduce the risk of infection to staff and residents and ultimately reduce the risk of cross contamination.
A supporting statement issued with the application states that the extension is needed to make the home “Covid-safe”.
It adds that a recent review by the Care Inspectorate highlighted “several concerns” relating to the male and female staff changing rooms, staff canteen and laundry facilities where improvements should be made to reduce the risk of infection in the care home.
The location and scale of the extensions will not have a serious impact on the building in terms of the visual aspect.
