Her Majesty the Queen has postponed the highlight of the Balmoral social calendar due to the referendum.
Estate managers at Balmoral have moved the dance to Friday night (September 19) in order to allow estate workers time to cast their vote.
The Ghillies Ball is traditionally a highly exclusive event, with invitations extended only to estate workers and close neighbours to the Queen’s residence at Balmoral. The event has taken place on an annual basis since Queen Victoria’s reign.
Her Majesty passed comment on the Scottish referendum outside Royal Deeside’s Crathie Kirk last Sunday. After inviting the media up the drive to the Kirk, the Queen is reported to have addressed observers saying “I hope everybody thinks very carefully about the referendum.”
