Pupils do their part for recycling

pupils from Dunecht Primary made Christmas decorations by reusing materials like old magazines and packaging.

They displayed their decorations at the recycling point in the school car park, before taking them home to show their families.

Aberdeenshire Council is warning that recycling services can be very busy over the Christmas and New Year period and you may find containers are your local recycling point are full when you go to use them.

The council’s waste and recycling team is working hard to service the recycling points as often as possible.

The local authority has provided a few hints and tips to help them keep the recycling points clear and make sure as many people can use them as possible:

- Do not park your car in a position that blocks the recycling point and stops council vehicles from coming in to empty them.

- If possible, have a clear out in advance and then spread your recycling over the festive period.

- If your local site is busy, take your recycling to an alternative recycling point. Other locations may be signposted at busy sites.

- Don’t leave material outside the containers. It is unsightly, creates a nuisance and is an offence. If you cannot recycle that day, please take it home and try again later.

The location of the recycling points and Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs), the materials they accept and their opening times are available on the website (www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/waste) or by calling Wasteline on 0845 600 3 900.

Wasteline is closed on public holidays, but is otherwise open Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm.
