The recycling facility in The Square, Beltie Road, Torphins, is to be removed following a consultation exercise by Aberdeenshire Council.
The consultation was conducted in response to Torphins Community Council’s calls for the facility, currently situated in the village square, to be removed to make the main route through the village more attractive. The authority sought views from residents in the area about removing the facility from The Square.
The community council said the facility, in its current location, detracts from the appearance of the centre and can restrict traffic for a short time while the site is serviced.
In light of the feedback received, the council will remove the facility on July 1 for a three-month trial.
Residents are encouraged to use the alternative recycling point at Torphins Park car park. Usage of this site will be closely monitored and assessed at the end of the trial. Although there are arguments both for and against the removal it is hoped a three-month trial will help the waste service assess if two recycling points are required.
