A Donside golf fan won a once in a lifetime trip to watch the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles thanks to VisitScotland’s efforts to track him down.

However, once chosen as the national winner, Donsider Mr Scott proved less than easy to get hold of.

It took several weeks of trying before VisitScotland finally succeeded in contacting the Aberdeenshire winner via post.

From his home in Corgarff, Mr Scott has to travel 16 miles to collect his mail, so it was down to a little more luck that he managed to claim his prize in time.

The prize for four people included: tickets to the final day of The 2014 Ryder Cup, accommodation in Edinburgh and Turnberry, a £500 goodie bag and rounds of golf at some of the finest golf courses in Scotland.

Mr Scott said: “My plan of entering the competition as the only way to get Ryder Cup tickets came to fruition and myself and my friends are really grateful for the experience. The golf was an added bonus and I chose this moment to play my best golf of the season! Personally I would put playing around Turnberry as my number one experience of the trip.

“It was simply superb. The prize winners from Europe were good companions and hopefully we have made some golfing buddies for the future.”
