North East MSP and Liberal Democrat spokesperson for the Rural Economy and Connectivity Mike Rumbles has been elected as the committee’s EU reporter.
The role has been created to report on all issues of Brexit that relate to the work of the committee, and will continue as long as the UK remains a member state of the European Union.
Mr Rumbles said: “I would like to thank the members of the committee for their support. Brexit will take centre stage in much of the parliaments work over the next few years, and our rural communities will face more turmoil than most.
“The impact on our rural economy is already clear to see. Nevertheless, we now have an opportunity to focus on our rural industries in a way that best supports those sectors, and plays to the strengths of the Scottish rural economy. I want to make the most of those opportunities for the future, and my objective as EU Reporter will be to stress those to the committee when they arise.”
