Nearly 300 runners will assemble in the grounds of historic Balmoral Castle on Saturday, June 2, to take part in the Balmoral Half Marathon and a separate 10k run to raise funds for the St James’s Place Foundation.
Now in its third year, organisers will be hoping to beat the £19,870 raised for the Foundation last year.
The event attracts runners from all over Scotland to a course described by Glasgow’s List magazine as “one of the most scenic half marathons in the world”. The course takes runners through stunning highland scenery, including the ancient Caledonian Scots Pine Forest and under the famous Lochnagar mountain.
Money raised by competitors will be matched £1 for £1 by St James’s Place Wealth Management, which has a number of locations throughout the UK, three of which are in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Organiser Gemma Wood said: “The event is open to all competitors aged 16 and over, and there are still some spaces for entrants. Anyone wishing to take part can contact me on (0131) 303 0034 or Gemma.Wood@sjpp.co.uk
“It is, indeed one of the most scenic half marathons in the world, and the event last year was a great success. This year we have added a 10k run for those who might find a half marathon a little daunting. We were delighted to raise so much money for our Foundation last year and hope to raise even more this time.”
The money raised will be managed by the St James’s Place Foundation, a successful grant-making charity that gives vital funds to charities registered in the UK. The Foundation is the charitable arm of the St James’s Place Wealth Management Group and aims to improve the quality of life for those people in need as a result of disability or disadvantage.
It was established in 1992, and in the last few years well over £2 million has been raised annually through its community. In 20 years, the Foundation has raised more than £24 million.
Over 80% of St James’s Place Wealth Management staff and members of its Partnership make regular contributions to the Foundation via a monthly covenant.
