Slimming semi finals for Deeside weight watcher

An Aboyne woman has been selected as a semi finalist for Scottish Slimmers Slimmer of the Year 2014 after shedding a massive six stone.

Briony Russell, 35, now thinks nothing of bagging a Munro, cycling 30 miles or running a half marathon.

Just last year she could barely run for a bus.

Briony had lost weight for her wedding with Scottish Slimmers a decade ago. However, ten years and two children later, she had reached an all-time high, weighing in at 15 stone, 7lbs.

Briony said: “In April 2013 I rejoined Scottish Slimmers and this time I was determined to keep my weight down.

“Exactly a year later I reached my target, having lost six and half stone – which is more than my daughter weighs!”

In just over a year, Briony has dropped from a size 22-24 to a slender size 8.

She added: “I still marvel at how much weight I’ve lost as I struggle to pick up my children for a cuddle and realise I was carrying more than they weigh around with me every moment of every day.

“Now I give them a squeeze, put that weight down and go out for a run!”

Since sending the pounds packing, Briony has become ‘action woman’, competing in races including the 10k at Gairoch, the Baker Hughes 10k and Run Balmoral.

She said: “My life has changed beyond belief. I’m training for my first half marathon and I regularly cycle to the nearest Munro, climb it, and cycle home.”
