A “wonderful evening’s entertainment” was enjoyed at Banchory Rotary last week when finalists in the club’s Young Speechmakers competition delivered their speeches to a large audience.
Club president Ryan Bond said: “The standard of speeches was already high at the first round of the competition held the week before, with entrants from Banchory Primary, Hill of Banchory, Durris and Drumoak schools.
The top three selected for the final were Grace Bovaird (winner) speaking about Year 1912, Lauren Hilton on Birdwatching and Ellie Rodger on The Broons. Following the speeches, members and guests were treated to quality music from pupils from Banchory Primary compered by Grace Bovaird.
The evening was presented by the club’s Youth convenor, Ken Lennox and judging was led by Ian Hendry.”
At the end of the evening the club’s annual award for outstanding service to the community, the Walter Smith Rosebowl, was presented.
This year’s recipient voted upon by club members, was Banchory Academy’s Head of Expressive Arts, Mr Andy Bruce.
A citation for this award was read by Chris Engel. In accepting the award, Mr Bruce said he was delighted to do so on behalf of all the staff in his department.
