Earlier in the year the Torphins Gala Committee held a Horse Race Night which generated sufficient funds for a number of local groups.
The night was very profitable and entertaining and the money raised will go to Torphins Primary PTA, Torphins Bowling Club, Torphins Playgroup, Torphins Bridge club and Grants Journey Trust Fund.
Grants Journey Trust Fund was set up to help local Torphins resident raise money towards a FES machine (Functional Electrical Stimulation).
Grant Morrison sustained several broken bones, sternum, ribs, wrist, ankle and vertebrae leaving him paralysed from the waist down.
He spent eight months in hospital to return home for Christmas last year.
Since then Grant has visited Cyclone Technologies to try out the FES machine, a rehabilitation technique where electrical current is applied to stimulate peripheral nerves.
This stimulation evokes patterned movement of the arms and legs enabling the muscles to work.
The cost of the machine is £8500.
Rona Edgar, Chairperson for the Gala Committee, said: “Torphins Gala Committee had no hesitation in helping Grant and his family in the fund raising and the committee wish Grant all the best in the future.”
