Musical instruments worth thousands of pounds were destroyed last night after a fire gutted an Inchmarlo residents garage.

Flammable materials in the garage caught alight causing an explosion which blew the door off and the blaze came close to causing serious damage to the adjoining house in Lindrig, Inchmarlo.

Two fire appliances from Banchory and one from Aboyne were called to the cul-de-sac and had the inferno under control within two hours.

The cause of the fire has not been determined but is believed to have been accidental.

Inchmarlo resident Rebecca Cannon witnessed the blaze. She told the Piper on Facebook: “This is our neighbours house! It was very scary... firemen did a great job but it took some putting out!”

Lee Meldrum, who took the picture attached to this story, said: “Fortunate that both the Calor gas cylinder remained intact, which was in the garage and that the car never caught fire (the front of it started to melt) Pat on the back to all the firemen involved.”
