Things hotting up in Aboyne

Plans are nearing completion for the 2011 Aboyne Bonfire and Fireworks, which is to be held at the usual venue, Aboyne Green, on Saturday, November 5.

Miles Newman, chairman of the Aboyne Bonfire Co-operative said: “As in previous years, the local community is making this event possible and we have been lucky to enjoy support from the Dinnet Estate, Mick Mallett and Mid-Deeside Limited.

“The Aboyne and Deeside Rotary Club will be running their excellent burger stall and the Aboyne Youth Games Forum and mid Deeside Limited will be running stalls too.”

Mr Newman added: “Those planning to attend will be pleased to hear that there is no charge for admission, but we plan to raise funds from the sale of food, hot and cold drinks and glow bands and from collections on the night.

“In local communities there are many legitimate claims on limited sources of funding, and we have therefore not sought out sponsorship for the event. The viability of an evening such as this is therefore dependant upon what we raise on the night.

“We will have a team of volunteers rattling buckets, so I hope that those who attend will feel happy to contribute what they can.

The bonfire is due to be lit at 6pm with public admission from that time, but the firework display will commence at around 7pm.

Mr Newman said: “We would welcome any members of the public or local businesses with any spare timber or firewood to come to Aboyne Green to drop it off between 9am and 4pm on the day of the event. With November 5 landing on a Saturday this year, we are all hoping for an extra special event!”
