The Mains of Drum have made an impressive start to 2016 by finishing top in the Christmas catering category at a UK-wide awards ceremony.
On Sunday, January 10, the Drumoak-based gardening centre team travelled down to the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate and received the Gold Award for Christmas Catering at The Greatest Christmas Awards, forcing Bents Garden and Home in Cheshire to settle for the Silver Award.
Fraser McTaggart, assistant manager at Mains of Drum, said: “We are delighted to receive a gold award for The Greatest Festive Catering team.
“It is a great honour to be acknowledged as the best in the UK, we would like to thank all our staff and customers for their hard work and loyalty.”
The event, organised by Garden Trade News and Garden Radio saw 117 Garden Centres across the UK nominated for an award and expert judges visiting over 250 teams.
“Our Greatest Awards are all about celebrating excellence in garden centre teamwork,” said Trevor Pfeiffer, managing director of The Garden Communications and Media Company, publishers of Garden Trade News.
“The Greatest Christmas Awards prove once again that garden centre employees truly do work together to get the best results for their garden centre.
“They are thinking of Christmas 24/7. They’re planning for Christmas – including the events, displays, grottos and food. This happens all year round, across all departments”.
Trevor presented the awards alongside Carol Paris, chief executive of the HTA.
The judges were particularly impressed with the Mains of Drum’s use of local produce and home cooked festive menu.
