The 2011 Tornaveen first Friday series got off to a splendid start on March 11, with a memorable concert of music by Haydn, C P E Bach, Mozart and Beethoven, performed by Sharona Joshua on her own Schantz fortepiano, writes Geoff Cormack.

This was a rare musical experience which prompted such comments as “spellbinding virtuosity,” “incredible dexterity, such delicacy and such passion.”

The highlight of the evening was, for many, the Beethoven Pathetique. This was a tour de force, the creation of a long gone genius interpreted with the artistry approaching genius of a live three dimensional person.

It was as if Beethoven himself were present in that humble hall.
