A man has died following a one vehicle road traffic collision that occurred on an unclassified Donside road last Thursday.
William Paton, 54, of Westhill died when the silver Citroen Berlingo van he was driving crashed on the road between Keig and Montgarrie near Alford.
Police were informed of the collision at 2.30pm on January 29.
The road remained closed while police and emergency services attended.
Officers are appealing anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the van in the lead up to the accident to call them on 101.
They are particularly keen to speak to the delivery driver who alerted nearby residents of the collision.
In a statement Mr Paton’s family said: “Billy was very much a family man and was adored by everyone. He was a reknowned practical joker with family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him including his wee dog ‘Millie’.
“Billy was born and brought up near Montrose, moved to Aberdeen in 1984 and began his own painter/decorator business in 1986. He has been self-employed for the past 28 years and gained all his work through word of mouth and never had to advertise.”
Mr Paton is survived by his wife of 35 years Elizabeth, known as Liz, daughter Lisa, 32 and son Nicol, 30. His daughter Lisa is due to get married later this year.
