Deesiders gathered this week as the switch was flicked to light up the tallest living Christmas tree in the United Kingdom.
The 125ft tall Giant Redwood tree, located at Hilton Grand Vacations Club at Craigendarroch, Ballater, lit up Royal Deeside for the festive season with 2100 twinkle lights.
The towering tree is topped with a huge five-and-a-half-foot Christmas star.
Local children from Ballater Primary School Choir helped mark the occasion by singing Christmas carols around the foot of the tree and taking part in the switch on ceremony.
Paul Leitch, country club manager, Hilton Grand Vacations Club, said: “Seeing the tree lit up marks the start of the build up to Christmas for lots of our guests, visitors and neighbours.
‘‘ The tree can be seen from up to 15 miles away – so it is has become quite a special landmark in the local area.”
It is thought that the tree , which takes pride of place in the main driveway, was gifted by Queen Victoria to the family living in Craigendarroch House at the time.
