Flood warnings are now in place for Ballater.

Sunday, 4th October 2020, 9:45 am

Due to persistent and at times heavy rainfall through Saturday, levels on the River Dee are rising.

Further heavy rainfall is expected to continue into Sunday morning.

This is a precautionary warning regarding possible flooding impacts at the caravan park and properties at the lower end of Dee Street.

Widespread flooding is not expected through Ballater.

Engineers are carrying out safety checks at various bridges across the Rivers Don. Water levels are expected to remain high throughout the day and a shifting, prolonged pattern of weather is likely to continue to cause disruption to travel.

Aberdeenshire Council has an obligation to maintain roads and undertake certain emergency responses in the event of flooding but this does not extend to private property. When flooding is forecast, residents and businesses should take steps to protect their own property from flooding.

Please take extra care and avoid unnecessary travel, and put in place any property level protection measures you may have if you are in a high risk area. Across Aberdeenshire, it is noted heavy and persistent rainfall could cause other localised flooding and disruption to travel. There is a strong possibility that some communities may be cut off by flooded roads and with high winds as well as heavy rain expected in some areas, driving conditions are already hazardous and worsening. Please take extra care.
