Banchory took on second place Rothie Rovers in the quarter final of the Aberdeen Trophy Centre White Cup.
Banchory’s struggles this season, both with results and with lack of numbers, continued with manager Girvan naming just ten players and having to put his own boots on for the first time in over five years to make up the numbers. Joining him in the middle of the park was veteran Alan Lawrence.
Banchory had nothing to lose and started the game strongly. The back four were solid and the five man midfield protected them well allowing lone striker Chalmers to occupy the visiting defence.
With 20 minutes gone Lawrence put Banchory ahead and on the half hour mark the home team doubled their lead when Meldrum, making his debut, scored.
On the stroke of half time Banchory scored a third through Macgregor.
Banchory were giving their all but ten minutes into the second half Rothie pulled a goal back.
This caused Banchory a few moments of panic, however in the 60th minute Meldrum got his second and Banchory’s fourth.
The visitors scored twice more as Banchory’s makeshift team tired but Banchory held out for the final fifteen minutes for a well deserved team victory which they will be hoping they can take into league games.
With players coming in and injuries clearing up Banchory can take a lot out of this victory.
