Culter knocked out of Grill League Cup

Culter crashed out at the quarter final stages of the Grill League Cup to Dyce at Mair Park. A host of missed chances from The Deesiders, some good goalkeeping from Buchanan and poor defending contributed to the final result.

It all looked good in the early stages for the away team with Jamie McAllister just failing to connect with Youngson’s teasing cross.

McBain was next to provide Jamie with a chance but the striker’s close range effort was brilliantly turned away by Buchanan. Reid then did well to block a Bartlet shot but required treatment.

In the 13th minute the ball landed to Mark BARTLET, whose 20 yard shot was deflected past Farquhar to open the scoring for Dyce.

A minute later the injured Reid was replaced by veteran Rattray. Leith’s header across was goal was just missed by McBain and McBain then beat the offside trap and latched onto Craik’s lobbed pass only to shoot agonisingly past the post.

Robertson was next to try his luck but his shot flashed across the goal with no takers. The same player then saw his free kick deflected wide for a corner. Leith had a great chance as the winger was left in space 10 yards out but failed to hit the target.

Youngson’s free kick scraped the post as the half time whistle blew and the Culter faithful were wondering how they were one down.

McBain’s surging run into the box saw him end up on the deck but the referee waved away his penalty claims in the 53rd minute.

Two minutes later the home team doubled their advantage. NEISH latched onto a long pass and the tall striker calmly guided it past Farquhar.

Culter pulled one back in the 74th minute. Darren McAllister’s cross was chested down by Michael TAYLOR and his low shot found the corner of the net.

However straight from the kick off a hopeful punt into the away box was dropped by Farquhar and landed to David NEISH who had the easy task of thumping the ball into the empty net to send Dyce through.
