Holders Culter crashed out at the quarter-final stage of the McLeman Cup against a Stonehaven team they had beaten only seven days previously in the North Regional Trophy.

The away team were quick out the blocks and in the second minute Lewis SHAND hit a 22 yard swerving shot that Farquhar could only palm into the net.

Culter, who were playing their sixth game in two weeks, were sluggish and Alexander then waltzed his way though the home defence only for his cross to fly across goal.

At the other end Smith was quick off his line to deny McBain and seconds later McBain’s powerful header just flew by the post.

Stonehaven doubled their advantage on 16 minutes. A corner from the left was pinged about the box and ended with HORNE hooking the ball home from 10 yards.

Culter tried to get back into the game with Youngson’s shot just being kept out by Smith and McBain’s long range lob just floating over the bar.

The home side’s best chance in the first half fell to McBain who headed McWilliam’s cross against the post with McAllister sending the rebound over the bar.

Jamie McAllister was unlucky to see his low drive drive shave the post before Horne went on another mazy that finished with him firing wide.

Early in the second half Jamie McAllister touched on McBain’s cross only for Smith to make a last ditch save on the line as Culter continued to search for a goal.

Jamie McAllister did have the ball in the net only for the linesman to chalk the goal off for offside.

Despite being camped in the Hive half Culter fell further behind. A corner from the left was met by DUNCAN who hammered in a low drive though a rack of players and into the net.

Stonehaven will now meet either Stoneywood or Longside in the semi-final.
