With almost a full squad available, Deeside Girls U13s set off for Ayrshire in a Scottish Cup tie knowing a win would put them in the quarter finals of the competition.

Home side Kilwinning got off to a strong start and Molly Robinson had to look sharp as she got her head to a goal bound shot.

Deeside hit back a few minutes later when Eden Hutcheon’s 20 yard strike rebounded off the post.

The crowd were entertained as the game ebbed and flowed.

It was Deeside who again went close as Katie Brimmer’s shot was cleared off the line.

However, the impressive Brimmer was not to be denied. With eight minutes on the clock, Hutcheon won the ball in midfield and passed to Brimmer who used her speed to get behind the Kilwinning defence and fire the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper.

This seemed to settle the away side down and Katie Becker combined with Brimmer to see the latter’s shot saved well.

Midfielder Becker was next to test the home stopper but she was also denied.

A Kilwinning midfielder tried her luck as she ran past two Deeside players but fired her shot well over the bar.

Deeside responded through Brimmer again but her effort sailed over the bar.

The heat was causing both teams problems and manager Birss replaced Hutcheon and Brimmer with Zara Newman and Sophie Taylor as the first half drew to a close.

The two substitutes combined well at the start of the second half but Newman couldn’t find the target from the edge of the box.

Rees proved her worth in the Deeside goal with a fine save from the Kilwinning midfielder.

Amy Christie came on for the hard-working Molly Robinson and was immediately called into action as she intercepted the home attacker’s forward pass.

It looked like it was going to be Deeside’s day when striker Sophie Taylor made it 2-0 when she rounded the keeper and poked the ball home.

With 15 minutes to go Becker made the result safe, with a superb 15-yard volley which found the top corner for 3-0.

In the final ten minutes four new faces were introduced for Deeside and it made an instant impact.

Brimmer added a fourth when she blasted home from close range for her hat-trick and then scored again two minutes later for 5-0.
