Defensive errors cost Banchory

Banchory’s season continued to decline as they produced their worst display of the season last weekend. Again with the team numbers very low Banchory could only name 2 subs, once again with manager Girvan putting on a strip.

The game started evenly and Banchory created the first real chance for Chalmers who went through on goal but the keeper cleared the danger.

With 15 minutes gone a soft free kick was awarded on the edge of the box, from the resulting free kick Davidson failed to hold on to the initial shot and the number 7 for Lads club was the quickest to react to stab the ball into the net from a yard out.

In their current run, this setback hit Banchory hard and they failed to lift themselves quickly enough as Lads Club doubled the lead from a corner within five minutes, again Banchory failed to clear and the centre half knocked the ball in from all of four yards.

In the second half Chalmers’ pace down the right was Banchory’s only real outlet and he was sent clear, however he should perhaps have cut the ball back to Tully rather than attempt a shot from a very tight angle only to see the ball blaze wide of the upright.

This was as good as it got for Banchory, they looked second best to the stronger and fitter opponents, however confidence is at an all time low.

More individual errors were to blame when Banchory conceded goals three and four in the space of ten minutes.

Poor defending with firstly Michael Girvan unluckily heading past his own goal keeper for the third and then a poor attempted back heal for the fourth handed the away team simple goals all of which were scored from inside six yards.

Davidson pulled off a couple of good saves to keep the score at 4-0, however it was only a temporary reprieve as Banchory conceded a further two goals in the last five minutes.

Banchory are now adrift four points adrift at the bottom of the Division 1 league table and will face an uphill struggle to get out of trouble with seven games remaining.

Banchory face Old Aberdonians at home this Saturday with a 2pm kick off.

Banchory: Davidson, Lloyd, Brand, Macgregor, John Smith, Norton, Chalmers, Gilbert, Rooney, Michael Girvan and Tully. Subs: O’Neil and Martin Girvan.
