The Deeside U15 team, with a few key forwards missing, faced a large Gordonstoun pack on a blustery day, and soggy pitch.
Gordonstoun started the game with the wind behind them, and took full advantage early on, with long kicks into the Deeside 22, managing to convert two tries in quick succession, using the bulk of their forwards to bundle their way over the line.
The Deeside forwards managed to settle in and were starting to hold their own in the scrums, with the backs putting in some great tackles. Some sloppy play by Gordonstoun, and a series of dangerous tackles saw one of their largest Gordonstoun forwards sin binned for ten minutes, and scrums restricted to 7-a-side.
Despite great defence from Deeside, and valiant tackling by Liam Hutcheon, James Long, Ben Hessell and Daniel Probyn, Gordonstoun managed to punch through the line and score a third try in the corner before half time. With one or two injuries sustained in the first half, Deeside started the second half with the wind behind them and soon took advantage, pushing their way into the Gordonstoun half using Jack Christies boot.
Following good line out ball from Daniel Graham, and surging runs from James Long and Ben Hessell, Deeside camped in the Gordonstoun half for several phases, but were unable to convert from the set pieces and found themselves outmatched in the rucks.
After being isolated by one of the Deesiders’ surging runs, Gordonstoun punched the ball into the Deeside 22 from a penalty, and with pressure of large numbers bearing down on the ball in the Deeside 22, Gordonstoun converted a try under the posts. Deeside did not drop their heads, and finished the game very strongly to score arguably the best try of the match, with a slick move in the back line from fast ball from Josh Williams, Jack Christie, Liam Hutcheon and Ben Hessel making a break through the Gordonstoun back line, then using the pace of James Long coming in the line on the inside to take the ball within yards of the try line, only for Ian Hay-Higgins to win the ball and score for Deeside. The score finished 22-5 to Gordonstoun.
