Drew powers through!
BANCHORY Academy pupil Drew Robertson capped off a dream start to his boxing career by winning the Scottish Novice Championship in Fife.
Lightweight boxer Drew, who has only been boxing for 10 months for Kincorth Amateur Boxing Club, stormed to his fifth straight victory in a row.
The 15-year-old's coaches Keith Hopkinson from Banchory and Philip Brown from Kemnay believe that Drew has the potential to go far as long as he keeps his feet on the ground.
Coach Philip Brown said: "He trains extremely hard and is 100% dedicated but we were in doubt whether to put him forward for the championships as he had a viral infection. However, after sparring with international boxer Nicky Caine prior to the championship we knew he would do well.
"In Drew's first bout at the championships he listened to exactly what I asked of him and got the win. The final was against a very tough opponent from Fauldhouse in Glasgow but Drew blew me away with his performance. He did not make one mistake and to date has had five fights and five wins and now has a Scottish title to his name. We know he has got a real future in the sport."
Drew, who will be boxing in a Banchory Boys Club fundraiser at the Banchory Royal British Legion on January 22, would like to thank both his coaches for their commitment and support over the last ten months.
He added: "I would love to turn pro one day but you have to keep your eye on where you are at the moment. I'm training five or six times a week and I need to keep working hard if I want to achieve my goals."
Drew is looking for sponsorship to help him reach top level amateur boxing.
