Both Clubs having lost their midweek league fixtures, most certainly went into this one with the three points top of their wanted list.
Cove, playing downslope first half, had a Craig 30 yard effort flash wide of Bennett’s goal whilst from a similar range at the top end, Daun’s effort for Echt flew just over in 12 minutes.
Echt’s appeal for a foul on skipper Douglas in 25 minutes fell on deaf ears, and a quick throw in by Cove saw Gill allowed time and space to hit a dipping shot over Bennett which clipped the top of the crossbar on its way over.
Twice in quick succession Cove midfielder Fettes threatened inside the Echt box, firstly to be denied by a timely A Davidson tackle and seconds later he shot tamely into Bennett’s arms.
A surging run from the halfway line into the Echt box by Mann looked ominous until Graham’s last ditch intervention.
Cove lived dangerously in 32 minutes as they struggled to get a Chalmers flag kick clear of their six yard box with the help of two goal line clearances.
Wood then broke at pace though the heart of the home rearguard and warmed McKenzie’s hands with a low drive that came back off the keeper, who smothered at the second attempt with McDonald moving in for the kill.
The homesters piled on the pressure late first half but the Echt rearguard stood firm to deny them the lead.
Echt made a very positive second period start and McKenzie was forced into early action by Wood following a MacLeod corner, then Leith, inside the Cove box drove across goals and wide.
Echt hit the front in 57 minutes when Wood flashed a fine finish high into the net between McKenzie and his right hand post after Davidson and McDonald had done the spade down the right flank.
Echt were now in control with Cove struggling to contain some great moves and McKenzie was frequently in action.
Echt deservedly doubled their advantage when Graham sent Leith free down the right to deliver backpost for Chalmers to net despite a valiant effort by the Cove keeper to keep it out.
A minute later McKenzie did well to block a Leith netbound effort on a McDonald cutback from the left byeline.
Echt’s third goal had the simplicity of route one written all over it. Douglas launched a free kick from the edge of his own box high into the Cove one, for Leith to get the deftest of headed touches that helped it over McKenzie and under his crossbar.
McGillivray, Kirton and D Milne were introduced as substitutes as Echt continued to look the liklier to add to their tally as the homesters poured men forward but it finished 3-0 to the away side.
ECHT: P Bennett, Graham, Cooper, Daun, Douglas, A Davidson, MacLeod, Leith, McDonald, Chalmers, Wood. Subs: Kirton, McGillivray, D Milne, L Milne and V Roger.
