Eleven chosen for North District Gymnastics Squad
Garioch Gymnastics Club have had a whopping 11 gymnasts selected for the North District Gymnastics Training
Selection was based on competition results from 2014 as well as set criteria on each piece of apparatus which needed to be met.
Training takes place in Dundee once a month and is coached by Garioch Elite coaches – Janine Robertson, Cathy Osborne, Emily Bull, Jenny Swan and Jamie Czop as well as coaches from Dundee 2k and City of Aberdeen Gymnastics Clubs.
The Garioch Glitter Girls successful in gaining a place in the North squad are: Izzy Tolometti (16 from Alford), Erin Fraser (13 from Inverurie), Leah Reid (12 from Kemnay), Brooke Masson (11 from Turriff), Isla Clark (11 from Kemnay), Teagan Batho (11 from Banchory), Layla Williams (10 from Blackburn), Josephine Wright (9 from Alford), Rebecca-Ann Greig (9 from Alford), Isis Mason (9 from Leslie) & Aphra Davidson (8 from Turriff).
These squad results are made all the more astounding, as Garioch are only club in Scotland working at National level without their own full time training facility. They are based at the Garioch Community Centre (behind the swimming pool) in Inverurie,
Garioch Gymnastics club are trying to secure their own building, which can be permanently set up as a gymnastics facility.
With the amount of children currently taking part in gymnastics in and around Inverurie, the waiting list the club holds and with the ongoing successes of the gymnasts, the club desperately need a permanent facility to maintain and build on these successes and allow more children to take part in the sport at all levels. Garioch Gymnastics run an action-packed programme which includes recreational gymnastics classes for boys and girls aged four and upwards as well as pre-school classes from two years old and upwards.
In these classes, children are taught the basic gymnastic skills, body awareness, coordination, strength, flexibility, balance and power in a fun and structured environment.
The children get the opportunity each term to achieve their next GYMSTAR award, Garioch Gymnastics very own award scheme where children are awarded a certificate and medal on passing.
There is also a drop in freestyle/ adult/ teen’s class on a Thursday from 8-9.30pm at the Garioch Community Centre for people aged 14-plus. For more information about the classes or to register contact Elaine on (01467) 628283.
The club has achieved Enhanced Accreditation with Aberdeenshire Councils Club Cap scheme and British Gymnastics GymMark scheme, proving them to be safe, effective and child-friendly.
