Culter ease through to next round of cup

On a lovely October afternoon Culter was looking forward to the 2nd round Scottish Junior cup-tie against Fife team Thornton Hibs.

Culter started the stronger team and had a couple of long range efforts, however the game came to life after 20 minutes when J. McAllister beat two defenders and his shot went narrowly over the bar.

In 26 minutes the Thornton Hibs goalkeeper made a good save at the feet of the onrushing McAllister.

Thornton Hibs broke up the field and a last minute challenge from Robertson denied a shooting opportunity for Maxwell. 

Shand opened the scoring for Culter in the 28th minute after a couple of previous attempts by the Culter forwards had been blocked.

Youngson tried to lob the goalkeeper from 25 yards in the 34th minute, but Rowbotham saved easily,

McArthur was booked in the 36th minute after a late challenge.

McArthur then made a great cross from the right wing to J. McAllister to head home a powerful header to make the score 2-0 after 39 minutes.

A shot by Halley in the 40th minute produced a good save from Duffy.

Adam Wilson was replaced by Robbie Brown after 41 minutes due to a leg injury, then one minute later Leith sent over a good cross to the far post and Taylor headed a downwards header to make the score 3-0 for Culter.

In 44 minutes Sim made a great run but his shot went over the bar,

J. McAllister nearly scored another goal in 46 minutes, however his header hit the bar and he could not manage to score from the rebound as Shanks managed to block his shot for a corner.

Culter finished the first half strongly and was by far the superior team.

Maxwell had a long range free kick in the 47th minute which hit the bar and went over.

McAllister was through on goals with just the goalkeeper to beat but he sliced the ball past the post. Ireland ran through the middle of the Culter defence but was stopped by Brown. Youngson headed over after a cross from Leith in the 67th minute then Taylor had a good chance as he had a free shot at goal, but his attempt was saved by Rowbotham. 

McArthur scored the goal of the match in the 71st minute when he beat a couple of defenders and thrashed the ball into the net to make the score 4-0.

D.McAllister and C. Craik replaced Leith and Taylor in the 72nd minute. Shand then got booked for talking back to the referee. In the 88th minute J. McAllister headed wide from a Youngson corner.
