Banchory Beavers ASC will hold its annual Learn to Swim gala on June 28 to help raise money for the new Banchory Sports Village.

This year’s event will have a commonwealth theme in celebration of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.

Half of all money raised will go towards supporting the fundraising target for the new Sports Village.

Plans for the new development include a six lane swimming pool, a learner pool, a four court sports hall, a coffee shop and other associated facilities.

James Knowles, Fundraising Chair for the venture said: “Banchory Sports Village, with the support of local elected members, has been approved for inclusion in the Capital Plan for

Aberdeenshire Council. To ensure that the project, which will cost approximately £8 million, proceeds as planned, a contribution of £700,000 will be required from the community.”

Many local groups and clubs, such as the Beavers, will benefit from the Sports Village, which would provide a facility currently unavailable in Banchory.

A sum of £317,000 has already been committed, however the remainder of the balance needs to be in place by September 2015.

Andreas Christophersen of Banchory Beavers said: “We are delighted to support the new sports village and hope the gala will also help raise some much needed funds for our club.”

The new site is expected to open in 2017.
