Pupils from Alford, Westhills and other Aberdeenshire schools have been involved in the latest round of a sporting series which took place at Bennachie and feature Commonwealth athlete Jade Nimmo.
The latest round of Active Schools Central Aberdeenshire Cross Country Series took place at the Bennachie Centre on Tuesday, May 30.
Commonwealth long-jumper and aspiring Heptathlete Nimmo was there to present the winners their medals.
She represented Scotland in the long jump at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and is the current senior women’s record holder.
As well as pupils from the Deeside and Donside schools, youngsters from Huntly, Kemnay and Inverurie made up the 133 who took part.
The Bennachie event was the penultimate of the 2106/17 school year, with the final race set to take place at Alford’s Haughton Park on Tuesday, June 20.
Malcolm Grant, Active Schools lead coordinator for Central Aberdeenshire, said: “The team across central Aberdeenshire have put in a huge amount of effort to run the series as they do each year.
“Having an athlete of the standing and ability of Jade at the races was great for the pupils who were taking part, and she provided them with a great example of resilience and determination having overcome a hip injury to set her sights on the next Commonwealth and Olympic Games.”
