Alford gymnast Izzy Tolometti, 18, is one of Team Scotland’s latest selections for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
A further 92 athletes were announced at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum last week, and Scottish uneven bars champion Izzy was chosen as one of three Scottish female gymnasts.
The former Alford Academy pupil, who competes for Garioch Gymnastics Club and is now studying Applied Sport and Exercise Science at Robert Gordon University, said: “I can’t quite believe it. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet.
“We started working towards this after the last games and the last year has been really intense trying to get scores. Going through that and sacrificing what I’ve had to, such as not getting to see as much of my friends as I’d like to because of training, it’s great to be selected.
“I’m excited to get there and will absorb the whole atmosphere and enjoy the experience, appreciate every minute of it and hope to do well for the team.”
Cara Kennedy, fifth in the team event in Glasgow, was also selected, along with Shannon Archer, who took four golds, including the all-around title, at the 2017 Scottish Championships.
