Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne), the youngest competitor in the field at 15 years of age, scored an impressive win by four shots in the SLGA Champion of Champions’ tournament at Glasgow Gailes Golf Club on Sunday.

The one-round event should have been played last October but was postponed because of bad weather.

Competitors qualified for the Champion of Champions tournament by winning their county, divisional or national champions, winning an order of merit event of being selected to play for Scotland.

Shannon last year won the Aberdeenshire women’s and girls’ county championships, and also won a play-off for the Paul Lawrie Foundation Scottish schoolgirls championship at Murrayshall.

She won her first title of 2105 with a very good round of one-over-par 72, five under the CSS, which saw her finish four shots clear of a disappointingly small field of 10 competitors.

Stirling student Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey), winner of the Exeter University invitational women’s title in Cornwall only last week, finished runner-up to McWilliam, four shots

Kate McIntosh (Broomieknowe) and Stirling student Tara Mactaggart both finished on 77. Kate was officially placed third with a better inward half.

The CSS was 77.
