Royal Deeside hosts 2016 Scottish Championships

Mar Orienteering Club (Maroc) hosted the 2016 Scottish Orienteering Individual Championships at the weekend.

Balmoral Castle and Estate was the venue and plenty of sunshine highlighted Royal Deeside at its best.

Maroc’s Peter Graham said: “Organisers Caz Dudley and Clare Pritchett along with course planners John Mason and Trevor Ricketts did a great job ensuring over 600 competitors had the best orienteering experience possible.

“The club were rewarded with some great individual results on Saturday and again at Sunday’s Relay Championship organised by neighbouring Grampian Orienteering Club.”

The Maroc relay teams co-ordinated by coach Sarah Dunn won four out of the eight relay categories.

The Junior Relay was won by Maroc Ey team (Ewan Musgrave, Jonas Newey and Craig Smith).

The winning H17 Handicap team was Maroc Feugh (Kirsty & Eilidh Campbell & Abi Mason), Maroc Beltie won the 14 Handicap (Drew Tivendale, Andy Tivendale and Roger Coombs) and Maroc Tarland (Joe Wright, Luke Graham & Alistair Chapman) won the 11 Handicap class along with trophies for best Junior handicap and best overall handicap team.

The Men’s and Women’s Open relays provided some exciting finishes and were dominated by teams from Edinburgh University Orienteering Club.

Top individual results on the day were: 1st Places for Ewan Musgrave M12A, Matthew Gooch M14A, Andy Tivendale M65L, Catriona Chapman W12B, Rosie Getliff W18L, Sarah Dunn W45L, Clare Martin W50S, Grant McMurtrie -Lt Green and Paul Chapman –Orange.
