Banchory St Ternan ended their Grill League Cup campaign with a 3-1 home defeat to Stoneywood last weekend.

It has been a disappointing competition for the Saints after finishing second bottom of Section 1 but manager Sandy Carrol says there are lots of positives to take from the five games.

“Against Stoneywood I shuffled the pack with Ritchie Ross, Ben McGregor and Danny Ross all starting their first game for us this season, with Chris Donald and Justin Knowles also added to the starting line-up.” Carrol said.

“Giving these players much needed game time will definitely benefit them and the squad in the long run.

“The first 20 minutes we were very lethargic against the section winners and found ourselves 3 -0 down by half time. The second half we managed to get a goal back again hitting the woodwork and as in the previous game against Banks O Dee finished the stronger team.

“This league cup section has been beneficial in the respect of this group of players know that they can now compete against the alleged top junior teams in the area and with a bit of self belief go onto to do well in the league campaign.

“On Saturday (September 1) we are away to Bridge Of Don Thistle on cup business and we welcome back Chris Irvine, Josh Robertson, Craig Graham and Steve Gray to the squad.”

The match kicks off at 2pm.
