Shand and McCall heap on the misery at Stonehaven

Two former players came back to haunt Culter as they attempted to get their league campaign back on track with a Martin Shand double and a Phil McCall single doing the damage in front of a large crowd at Crombie Park.

It all started so well for Culter with Ryan Stott crossing for George McBain who headed straight at the ‘keeper.

Allan Youngson then tried to pick out Ryan Stott but the ball carried past the winger in the strong breeze.

The Deesiders took the lead in the 18th minute when an Allan Youngson free kick from well outside the area completely deceived Smith in the Hive goal and flew into the roof of the net.

The same player came close on two occasions soon after but somehow the attempts flew just wide of target.

Hive who were being pinned in their own half for most of the time were right back in it in the 31st minute when Martin Shand steered in the equaliser against the run of play.

With half time approaching Culter might have gone ahead but Murray Rattray fired behind from good position following a series of corners.

The referee handed out a spate of bookings at the start of the second half but Culter took a deserved lead when a cute George McBain pass left Jamie McAllister in the clear and he smashed a drive home off the post for a fantastic goal.

Hive were back in it again when a deflected free kick fell to Phil McCall and he smashed the ball past John Farquhar in the Culter goal.

The home side were not enjoying the best of luck and on more than one occasion the ball was cleared off the line with the ‘keeper beaten.

The visitors went in front for the first time when Martin Shand pounced on a Steve Glass free kick to send Hive into raptures.

With time running out a thundering Murray Rattray attempt was once again cleared off the line.
