Banchory Swifts travelled to Huntly for this preliminary round of the Scottish Cup and the U14 side was given the opportunity to play at Christie Park, the home stadium of the town’s Highland League team.
Swifts opened the scoring after 10 minutes when a through ball by Ferguson gave Harris Anderson a chance but the Huntly keeper’s stop rebounded to Milne who chipped the ball into the net from outside the box.
Swifts hardly had time to settle before Huntly equalised, their number 7 beat Siswick out wide and raced to the line where his unexpected lob caught out Strachan in goal and the ball sailed high into the top corner of the net.
Strachan made a great double save when Huntly’s number 7 again created space and fired in a shot from the edge of the box but Strachan saved with his feet and collected the rebound.
Huntly went 2-1 ahead after a low cross was pushed out by Strachan only to the feet of the waiting centre forward who made no mistake.
Douglas was left one-on-one with the goalkeeper at the start of the second half but the Huntly stopper did well to keep the score at 2-1.
Swifts eventually levelled after new signing Cox bundled home from Milne’s corner.
The away side scored again halfway through the second half.Scott Anderson ran through the defence and fired a low shot, which was saved, but the rebound fell to Flaherty who was alert enough to make it 3-2.
Swifts made sure of the win with five minutes remaining. Strachan’s low cross was missed by Hay but Douglas was on hand to finish at the back post.
